Chandan Pal

When I was young, my family spent several years living in Jodhpur, next to the jungles that were once home to now extinct Indian Cheetahs. Those early memories of being in a jungle sowed the seeds of my lifelong fascination with nature, which led me to wildlife photography. Often, wildlife photography is associated with framing of elusive, exotic subjects. Indeed, the big cats and exotic birds, central figures in classic photography literature, are awe-inspiring but very little material exists on capturing extraordinary moments of ordinary birds and animals. The challenge here is akin to executing fashion photography, but only with regular people to pose for you. I endeavor to capture these intimate portraits of their extraordinary lives that convey a sense of awe and wonder.
