They are the biggest assets for any organization or business irrespective of scale and type. After establishment & initial success, in order to maintain & manage the same only processes & systems are required for support. Those who realized this always focus more on investing in people's development over other aspects. 

Take successful examples from any industry and it’s their people who would have contributed immensely than anything else. That’s the level of importance people hold & the impact they can create on each other's lives provided they understand their weightage & have a relatively better approach in their personal as well as professional life. Hope we got a fair idea about the importance of people. Let’s look at the 

Present scenario

The world has evolved in a completely different manner over the past 1 ½ years due to the pandemic. Everyone realizes the importance of managing the network, relationships & having a smooth, right approach over others. 

There is a good amount of shuffling happening as below

Vendors are looking for new buyers. Similarly, buyers are trying to work with a new set of vendors suiting to new challenges beyond geography.
Individuals are looking for job changes in a big way as a majority of them have had their challenges in sticking to their present jobs & companies are looking for the right set of people who can do exceptionally well and manage the present challenges to become successful as individuals as well as reap benefit to companies.
Students are looking for a magic wand that will bail them out from the present challenging atmosphere & offer them a solution towards their career needs.
People on the personal front are getting annoyed & they are finding it difficult to stay positive & calm for such a long time with a good mindset. All these things are reflecting in people's behaviors & their approaches in a big way either knowingly or unknowingly. 

Now let’s see due to this how it changes their 

Approach

Due to recent changes across the globe entire approach of people towards business has completely changed. Some people are showing all their distress in the work environment, which affects the overall performance of individuals & businesses in a big way. It creates a new set of challenges in the working environment to address & ensuring smooth working at all ends.

People management is an art which was easier to manage when everyone was working from offices. With the online & work from home (WFH) culture being extended indefinitely & no control over individuals, people management has become a difficult task.

Apparel/textile sector being a key service function to various stakeholders & customers directly or indirectly it is important for people involved in this segment to realize this fact & work cohesively with their internal & external customers, stakeholders to gain success at an individual level & overall towards the success of the company. 

I have seen and heard of several scenarios where people have reacted differently as opposed to the defined codes of conduct. This has impacted the impression created on the customers and the company has moved away from the core values, vision & mission.

I would say some of them unknowingly show the approach of scissors whereas it’s time to have an approach of the needle. Let me share a small story about scissors & needles to make this point clear to everyone. 

Scissors & Needle Story

A tailor was at work. He took a piece of cloth and with a pair of shining, costly scissors, he cut the cloth into various bits. Then he put the pair of scissors at his feet. Then he took a small needle and thread and started to sew the bits of cloth, into a fine shirt. When the spell of sewing was over, he stuck the needle onto his Shirt.

The tailor’s son who was watching it asked him:

Father, the scissors are costly and look so beautiful. But you throw them down at your feet. This needle is worth almost nothing; you can get a dozen for few rupees. Yet, you place it carefully on your shirt itself. Is there any reason for this illogical behavior?

Yes, my son. The scissors have their function, no doubt; but they only cut the cloth into bits. The needle, on the contrary, unites the bits and enhances the value of the cloth. Therefore, the needle to me is more precious and valuable. 

Story ends…..

Self-Assessment 

I would not say all of them are like this and always. However, considering the larger picture, every individual needs to realize & understand the importance of people, present scenarios & mindful of their approach which benefits individuals as well as to industry.

We should do a fair self-assessment & take feedback about our approach with others. This helps us to be clear about where we are and enables us to amend our methodology if required.

I am not saying we should not play the role of scissors at all. We should for sure but the same should be minimal & we should play the role of the needle over the scissor which is important. To do so we should realize & assess how are we approaching ourselves at present.
